A master's thesis resulting from the collaboration with Fonderia Morini

For years, Fonderia Morini has collaborated with Politecnico di Milano to train new foundry technicians. This year, once again, the results were not long in coming.

Carlo Menichelli is a Master's degree student in Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico. In 2022, Menichelli did an internship at Fonderia Morini: an experience that proved to be crucial for the research subject of his thesis.

The thesis focuses indeed on the optimisation of an aluminium cast component for industrial applications. Through the analysis of a real case, Menichelli demonstrates how the combined use of different tools (software for casting simulation, X-rays, etc.) 'makes it possible to arrive at a correct design of the foundry mould in a short time, respecting high quality standards and making a limited number of samples'.

Below are his thanks to Fonderia Morini:
My special thanks go to my tutor Antonio Magnani, who helped me conduct my research, the subject of my thesis, at Fonderia Morini. He was always willing to transfer his knowledge to me and answer any questions or doubts I had, and he also passed on a strong passion for his work. In addition to the professional aspect, I thank him for the excellent human relationship that was born between us. I also thank the company and all the guys I shared days with during my internship: Hamza, Marius and Diego in particular.

Thank you, Carlo!
