In 1973 the Chill Casting division of Fonderia Morini srl was founded. The division is specialized in the production of aluminium alloy castings through the technology of chill casting. Since then, the division has been enriched with innovative equipments, such as new furnaces, and state-of-the art technologies thanks to automation, bringing the level of competitiveness and quality in production to an international standard.

In July 2021, Fonderia Morini passed an audit by ALSTOM, a leader in the Italian railway industry and one of the major players in the same sector worldwide.

In this article, we would like to explain in more detail why the presence of an in-house pattern department is of strategic importance within the context of a constantly evolving market. First, there is the convenience of an end-to-end and in-house workflow, which is also fast and efficient. From the CAD/CAM design up to the sample casting, Fonderia Morini can take care of the entire pattern production process, whether it is aimed at creating a pattern for foundries or an aluminium mould. Of course, this comes with obvious savings in terms of time and money for the customer. In addition, the quality is improved, as the models are made by our in-house staff in compliance with the operational characteristics of our plants.

But there is more. Manufacturing from scratch isn't the only workflow to be typical of foundry patterns. Another procedure is becoming more and more frequent and strategically important: pattern recovery. Thanks to the year-long refinement of our know-how and to the technical skills of our expert operators, Fonderia Morini is able to recover and adapt patterns and moulds from other manufacturers, for example previous suppliers who, for some reason, have gone out of business, and make them fully operational again. Recovering an existing model allows us to speed up the production for new customers, and it obviously represents an opportunity for the customers themselves to save money.
