An interview to Antonio Fantasia, head of Fonderia Morini’s pattern department
Antonio Fantasia has worked for Fonderia Morini since 1993. He started as an apprentice in the pattern department, of which he then became the head.
In an interview for Fonderia Morini’s YouTube channel, Fantasia discusses his role as well as the equipment and technologies of his department.
What does the pattern department do for Fonderia Morini?
As the name suggests, this department is aimed at making patterns.
Not only can Fonderia Morini’s pattern department make any kind of pattern (such as wood, resin and aluminum patterns), but it is also an internal department, meaning that it allows to save time and money.
The client only needs to provide Fonderia Morini with the technical specifications of the required pattern, such as its design, weight and alloy, then the mold will be made accordingly.
The pattern department’s equipment
A CAD CAM numerical control machine has been added to the pattern department, making the pattern design process faster and increasing the financial savings.
The constant technological upgrades of Fonderia Morini’s plants allows the foundry to work from a single file, i.e., the technical drawing, all the way to the sample casting.
Beyond making: pattern design and recovery
Although its main aim is making patterns, Fonderia Morini’s internal pattern department offers many more services.
Fonderia Morini can recover and use the patterns provided by the customers, reducing the costs, which would be higher if the same patterns had to be made from scratch.
The foundry also offers a pattern design service for the step before the making. After receiving the client’s specifications, Fonderia Morini’s specialized technicians create digital drawings of the mold using technical design software.
